Неделя английского языка в школе. Шотландский праздник

The County of Renfrew is a small but populous shire. Its county town is Renfrew, though Renfrew is far from the largest town, a prize which, outside the parts within the Glasgow conurbation, belongs to Paisley.
The county lies on the south bank of the Clyde, stretching from the southern Glasgow suburbs to the coast opposite Cowal. It is bounded to the north by the River Clyde and on the north and the west by the Firth of Clyde. To the east of Lanarkshire and to the south, Ayrshire. A small detached portion of the parish of Renfrew stands on the northern bank of the Clyde, surrounded on the landward side by Dumbartonshire.

Helen Duncan- Scotland's last witch

Helen DuncanSpiritualist, medium (well large actually, she weighed in at over 22 stones (that's over 300 lbs to any reader from the USA)) and the last person in Britain to be tried and sentenced under the 1735 Witchcraft Act.
Born in Callander in 1897, the daughter of a cabinet-maker, Helen Duncan was a show woman who travelled throughout Britain, holding regular séances during which she would produce the forms of dead people by emitting a cloud-like substance - ectoplasm from her mouth. These spirits were said to appear, talking and actually touching their relatives.

It was during the years of the Second World War that Duncan's activities attracted the attention of the Establishment.
